The ladder
1, 5 and 6 strongest; 8 strong but heavy; 3 good; 2 modest; 9 weak; 7 slightly negative; 4 strongly negative. A 4 or 7 year is the year the tradition says not to launch or expand.
The rival formulas
World year plus reduced month and day; month plus day plus the year of the last birthday; month plus day plus the last two digits of the year plus the weekday's planet. The dominant formula is used here and the others are recorded for reference.
