Most founders know their birth number and nothing else. The Master number and the Kua carry half of every compatibility reading on this site.
How this calculator works
- R-ORIGIN Origin number = day reduced. Master number = the eight digits of DD-MM-YYYY summed once, reduced.
- R-KUA Kua: 1900s male 10 - r, female r + 5; 2000s male 9 - r, female r + 6; January births use the previous year; Kua 5 becomes 2 for men and 8 for women.
- R-NAME Name number = all letters; soul = vowels; personality = consonants. Honorifics are stripped.
- R-MODES single reduces everything to 1 to 9; master_date keeps 11, 22, 33 in date numbers; master_any keeps them anywhere; western_ruling keeps 10, 11, 22; master_extended keeps 44 too.
- R-KARMIC 13, 14, 16 and 19 are flagged wherever they appear as an unreduced total.
Not what this tells you. A number is a lens, not a label. The same 8 reads as structure in one founder and delay in another once the rest of the chart is in view.
The reason
The Origin number is the day of birth reduced (mulank), the Master number (life-path number) is the whole date summed once and reduced (bhagyank), and the Kua follows the Feng Shui formula by sex and century, with the rule that Kua 5 does not exist. Name numbers use the letter table; vowels give the soul number and consonants the personality.
Where the schools disagree
- Western practice keeps the master numbers 11, 22 and 33 by default; Indian business practice reduces everything. The mode switch exists so the reader can see both.

The 3 by 3 square is filled from the date of birth, the Origin number, the Master number and the Kua. Each of the eight planes is graded Complete, One short, Thin or Empty, and the missing numbers are named.
A grid with no 5 or no 8 is read by practitioners as weak money management, whatever the earning. The founder feels it as cash that arrives and leaves.

Not what this tells you. The grid describes tendencies. A missing number is a habit to build, not a fate.
The reason
The Lo Shu square places 4-9-2 over 3-5-7 over 8-1-6. Rows, columns and diagonals form eight planes; a complete plane operates without effort, a broken one has to be worked at. The site convention adds the Origin, Master and Kua numbers to the raw date digits; the raw convention is available as a toggle.
Where the schools disagree
- Chinese practice fills the grid from the raw date only; Indian practitioners add the Origin and Master numbers. Both conventions are available and labelled.

What is the difference between Origin and Master numbers?
The Origin number (mulank) is how a person acts; the Master number (bhagyank, the life-path number) is what the years bring. The Origin number comes from the day of birth, the Master number from the whole date.
Why does my Kua say 2 or 8 when the formula gives 5?
Because Kua 5 does not exist in the Eight Mansions system; men take 2 and women take 8. The source site's sample printed a Kua 5 and this engine never does.
Which reduction mode should I use?
single, unless you are comparing with a Western reading. The rest of this site reads everything in single mode.
What does a missing number mean?
A quality that has to be built from scratch or borrowed from a partner. The remedies listed are the traditional supports.
What does a repeated number mean?
That quality in excess. Three 5s read as restlessness, three 1s as ego, in the practitioners' shorthand.
Why do the planes matter for business?
The Practical plane is whether work gets finished; Will is follow-through; Silver is accumulation. A founder reads them as a hiring list.
