Why two names that sound alike land on different totals

A golden-ratio spiral with digits around a star

A founder shortlists five names by sound and picks one by feel. Two of the five sit on compounds the classical table reads as warnings and one opposes the founder's own numbers; the shortlist never showed it, because sound and total have nothing to do with each other.

The reason

Every letter carries a value from 1 to 8 in the Chaldean system; the letters are summed once and the total is read before it is reduced, because the compound carries the reading (23 the Royal Star of the Lion, 35 the ruin number) while the digit carries only the character. The founder's Origin and Master numbers then decide whether the name is supported, since a name digit the founder opposes works against the person who has to carry it. Name Score ranks a shortlist on all of it.

Frequently asked
Which number is best for a business name?
5 has no opposed numbers and is the safest digit for trade; 6 and 1 follow. 2, 4 and 8 are cautioned outside the sectors that favour them, so take a 5 or a 6 there instead. The compound decides the rest.
Do I count Pvt Ltd?
No. Suffixes are stripped and shown as a secondary total, because a registrar chose them; count the name on the signboard.
Can a good name be made from a bad one?
Usually with one letter. Name Variants finds respellings within two edits and the report scores three of them.
